Setting up the quote-only instance of PolicyCenter
The quote-only PolicyCenter must generate the same quote pricing as the system-of-record PolicyCenter. To function effectively with the SOR, the quote-only instance must use the same configuration information as the SOR. During setup, you must ensure that you synchronize the following information in the quote-only instance and the SOR:
- Producer codes
- Product model
- Rate tables
- Users
When setting up a system to handle high volume quotes, also consider the following:
- If you set up multiple quote-only instances that use separate databases to store PolicyCenter entities, you must ensure that each database is synchronized with the SOR database. Clustering multiple quote-only instances to use a single database reduces the administration tasks to set up the individual databases. If you use a single PolicyCenter database for all quote-only instances, monitor the performance of the cluster to ensure that the database is not a performance bottleneck.
- All quote-only instances of PolicyCenter access the same Quote table in the external quoting database for storage and retrieval. Therefore, you can add additional instances as necessary to support peak loads. Each instance operates independently.
- You can purge the Quote table on a regular basis to keep the size manageable. All quotes that are older than a specified age can be purged completely because the data warehouse has a record of the data.
- Maintenance on the PolicyCenter system of record does not impact the operation of the quote-only instances, which facilitates 24/7 operation.
- A PolicyCenter system can be only either a quote-only instance or a system of record, not both. Archiving operates only on a system of record and is disabled on a quote-only instance of PolicyCenter. PolicyCenter uses configuration parameters to determine which type of system it is. If you set conflicting configuration parameters, PolicyCenter does not start.
